Galaxus now displays information on mobile phone radiation levels

The online retailer Galaxus is now adding radiation exposure information to the product data of mobile phones. Using the specific absorption rate (SAR), customers can see how much radiation each mobile in the product range emits.

Every mobile phone emits radiation. How much it emits, varies from device to device. It’s not easy for customers to find out how much radiation a particular mobile phone creates. The information is often missing from online shops and can only be found by doing your own research on the internet.

This is now changing at Galaxus and Digitec. We’re the first online store in Switzerland to use the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) to show our customers how high the radiation exposure of each individual mobile phone is. It’s also possible to filter by this parameter.

What is the SAR and what does it mean?

In mobile communications, high-frequency electromagnetic fields are used to transmit speech or data. When you talk on your mobile, some of the energy from these fields is absorbed by your head. The SAR serves as a measure of energy absorption. It’s measured in watts per kilogramme (W/kg). The value Digitec and Galaxus display is based on making calls with the mobile phone held to your ear.

*Is low radiation exposure important to you when buying a mobile? Or do you prioritise other features of your phone more?
