Thanks to innovative thermoplastic film, the new Smartube from Pirelli is incredibly lightweight. Its volume is less than half that of a standard butyl tube. Compared to standard tubes, the Smartube is up to 65% lighter. The bright yellow tube also excels in puncture safety and is twice as robust as conventional tubes.
Outside of the tire, the Smartube should not be inflated beyond 0.5 bar. The material is less elastic than butyl, expands more significantly from 0.5 bar, and can lose its shape or even burst when not mounted. Suitable only for bicycles with disc brakes.
