Cobras are famous for their threatening hood around the neck. They expand this when they feel threatened or angry. The hood consists of skin flaps attached to long ribs. They are also capable of raising their heads high off the ground, which is not only a threatening gesture but also helps them in hunting for food. Additionally, they hiss loudly to deter potential predators. There are 270 different species of cobras and their relatives, including taipans, adders, mambas, and many sea snakes, including kraits, all of which have short fangs and are extremely venomous.
