Lemurs are one of the few animals that live in a matriarchal society, meaning that female lemurs have more control over the group than male lemurs. However, these lemur groups behave very similarly to other primates, as they groom and feed each other and also sleep close together. It is not known why lemurs exhibit this rare form of social structure.
