The polar bear is a large species of bear found in the ice fields of the Arctic Ocean. It is the largest bear species in the world (except for the KodiakBrown Bears found in Alaska, which can reach similar sizes), with males often weighing around 600 kg. Closely related to the Brown Bear, the Polar Bear's name actually means Sea Bear, as they are known to not only spend a lot of time near shore, but are also strong and capable swimmers, having been spotted up to 100 miles from the nearest ice or land.
