Cavern is a game of strategy and development. Players take on the role of dwarf adventurers who live inside a cave complex where they dig for minerals that create suitable places to live and work. The minerals are used to build the weapons needed to embark on expeditions in search of adventure and loot. Rubies are a useful and valuable asset; they can be exchanged for other goods and landscape tiles at any time. Outside the caves, players must provide for their livelihood by cutting down trees, raising animals, and farming. The dwarves will farm the forest outside their cave and dig into the rock inside the mountain. They will furnish the caves to make them habitable for their offspring, as well as create work environments for their activities. At the end of the game, the richest dwarf wins, as they will have developed their home board in the best way. In short, this is a classic of the German genre, where the player who can best manage their resources wins. This is why Cavern, like Agricola, is one of the premier management systems. Contents include 30 cards, 1 score pad, 1 rulebook and appendix, 16 blanks containing over 400 tiles, 16 game boards, over 60 acrylic tokens for minerals and rubies, and over 300 wooden tokens for animals, resources, and dwarves.
