Kahlo completed this piece in 1940, a year after her turbulent divorce from Mexican painter Diego Rivera. The self-portrait with thorn necklace and hummingbird is widely regarded as a reflection of her emotional state after the couple's separation. Specially designed cardboard with a resistant linen texture for even better cohesion of the pieces.
