The Old Guitarist is one of several Picasso portraits aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the poor and sick. This particular artwork depicts an elderly blind man leaning over his guitar. His poverty is emphasized by his worn clothing and how he plays for alms on the streets of Barcelona. The painting was created in 1903 in Madrid. Specially developed cardboard with a durable linen texture for even better piece cohesion.
