Product details
It opens and closes its petals in response to external influences such as touch, proximity, or light. These topics can be playfully and motivatingly learned and implemented by students in the classroom using the sensors and control technology built into the Bionic Flower. Thus, both the design and the transfer of principles from the plant world into technology complement the teaching of curriculum topics such as motor skills or sensor technology in STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Additionally, the topic of biodiversity can also be addressed in the classroom.
Natural Models: Festo Didactic has taken the mechanisms of water lilies and mimosa plants as inspiration in developing the Bionic Flower. These plants have one thing in common: the opening and closing of their leaves in response to external stimuli.
Modular Concept: With the experimental kit, students can build the drive and learn how it responds to changes in the environment. The Bionic Flower has 15 petals and a mechanism that allows them to open and close sequentially. Control is done via WiFi using mobile devices. Working with the robotic flower in teams is recommended.
Encouragement of Creativity: Students can freely design the petals according to their own imagination. Some components can be printed using 3D printing technology or individually expanded. This aims to spark a spirit of experimentation.
Sensors and Light Effects: Students can experiment with the light and distance sensors and adjust the control to various scenarios. With the built-in LEDs, the Bionic Flower can respond to corresponding stimuli with selected colors.
Online Learning Environment: Accompanying teaching materials and construction instructions for students are available online for free download.
