Advent Calendar "Berlin Palace"
The architectural center of old Berlin, the capital of Germany, was the Berlin Palace at the end of the grand boulevard Unter den Linden. The Berlin Palace, later known as the City Palace, was built in 1442 and served as the residence for the Margraves and Princes of Brandenburg. From 1702, it became the royal Prussian residence and from 1871, the imperial residence. During the Weimar Republic, the Berlin City Palace was used for cultural purposes. Museums and institutions moved in, and concerts took place. The palace architect Andreas Schlüter transformed the Berlin City Palace in the 17th century into one of the most significant baroque palaces in the world. The Berlin Palace was partially destroyed in World War II, and the GDR government had it completely demolished.
Since 2013, a new palace is being built. The baroque façade is being reconstructed faithfully to its historical design. Inside the Berlin Palace, the Humboldt Forum is being created. Our Advent calendar features the historical façade of the Berlin City Palace with its distinctive dome and magnificent portal. When opening the windows, surprises await with both Christmas and typical Berlin motifs. The windows are carefully integrated into the architecture, ensuring that the beauty of the image remains intact, even when all the windows are open.
