Style 1A involves a game where the player and the yoyo (ball bearing) are connected by the string. The player performs tricks by interacting with the string. To this day, this is the most practiced yoyo style.

Style 3A is similar to 1A, but with one yoyo in each hand, requiring interactions between the two yoyos. Style 5A differs in that the yoyo is attached to a counterweight on the other end of the string, increasing the number of possible tricks.
