Secret revealed: this is what the mysterious Hay toiletry bag looks like inside

Good on the outside and ... on the inside? Hard to say. Because hardly any online shops provide information, let alone pictures, of the interior of the "Multi Washbag" from Hay. I took a look for you.

«With a zip, inner compartment and hanging loop, it offers plenty of space in a playful design», according to the Galaxus product description for the «Multi Washbag» from Hay. I can find similarly (in)detailed information about the toiletry bag and its interior at Hay itself: «A secure zip, a practical inner pocket and a handy hanger ensure organisation and convenience.»

So the zip is secure, the inside pocket is practical. Ok. Can I have a look? Apparently not. Because there are only pictures of the outside. The toiletry bag on its own as a sober standalone, then nicely draped on the edge of the washbasin next to a toothbrush - in its natural habitat, so to speak - or stacked to form a tower on top of other «Multi Washbags» in other colours. If you want to know more precisely whether the washbag is suitable for you and your travelling needs and how large or small, centred or sideways the inner pocket is, you'll probably just have to buy the 35 francs product on the off-chance. In other words: you had to. Until just now. Because I've revealed the secret of the interior for you.

Drum roll: This is what the inside of the Hay «Multi Washbag» looks like

In one word: unspectacular. The secure zip conceals a large compartment covering the entire surface area of 14 × 26 × 14 centimetres. One of the long side walls holds the unspecified inner pocket. It is around 2.5 centimetres less high than the washbag itself and has no fastener.

One large main compartment, one small, non-closable side pocket.

How the «Multi Washbag» performs in use

If you like to organise your beauty products and tools in various compartments for a good overview, the Hay toiletry bag is definitely not the right one for you. As I've always travelled with a rather impractical toiletry bag, I'm happy to give the Washbag a chance because of its pretty look. And I have to say: I like it!

The capacity of around five litres makes filling it a breeze and thanks to its 26 centimetres, I can easily fit longer items such as toothpaste, nail file and hairbrush. I store tools such as brushes and eyelash brushes in the open side compartment. Tweezers can be hung over the outer wall of the compartment.

I'm not quite as impressed with the carrying handle. At least not when I use it to hang the bag. Firstly because of the risk of a product tumbling out and rattling on the bathroom floor, and secondly because hooks are always in short supply in hotel bathrooms anyway. Having the option of removing the closed washbag from the humid radius of action in the bathroom and hanging it up at a safe distance is, of course, anything but wrong.

In a nutshell

Simple but functional

If you need different compartments in your toiletry bag for optimum travelling quality, the Hay "Multi Washbag" is not for you. If, on the other hand, you're the type of person who likes to have everything with you without the packing tetris, the spacious 5-litre bag is a great option! The Oeko-Tex certified cotton is robust - but also flexible if you need to stuff your products. One small disadvantage: according to the care label, the washbag is unfortunately not washable (which is not entirely clear to me).

Pro

  • Spacious thanks to 5-litre capacity
  • Robust, but flexible
  • Beautiful, timeless design
  • three pretty colour variants

Contra

  • Very simple interior design
  • Not washable
