You can freely assign the signals and, for example, play a movie on two televisions simultaneously. If the HDMI source delivers an Ultra HD signal, but one of the televisions only supports Full HD, you can turn on the scaler. The scaler downscales the resolution, converting a 2160p signal to 1080p. Other image and sound information remains unchanged. The HDMI Matrix Switch can therefore be ideally used in a mixed operation with an Ultra HD device and a Full HD device. Here, the matrix switch supports CEC communication. Additionally, the HDMI Matrix Switch features an audio extractor. This allows sound to be played through a sound system. You can connect the sound system either digitally via SPDIF Toslink or analog via a 3.5 mm jack. Through Toslink, the switch delivers a digital stereo signal or 5.1 sound (Dolby Digital, DTS). Please note: The transmission of HD audio formats such as DD+, Dolby TrueHD (Dolby Atmos), or DTS-HD is generally only possible via HDMI, not at the SPDIF output. To hear something at the analog audio output, the source must provide stereo. Digital sound cannot be output here. You can enable ARC (Audio Return Channel) to send the sound from the television to the sound system. This is useful when using the internal TV tuner or a Smart TV app. You can select which sound you want to hear using the remote control or directly on the switch. When you enable ARC, the analog audio output remains silent. ARC is always digital, even with stereo sound. Please note that digital sound does not carry volume information. Therefore, you must adjust the volume on the sound system.
