Banana Pi BPI-M3 – Single Board Computer with Octa-Core Processor, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth

The Banana Pi BPI-M3, the latest single board computer from Sinovoip, is an open-source hardware platform and an octa-core version of the Banana Pi that supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Additionally, it supports Android, Debian Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Raspbian, and other operating systems. The hardware of the Banana Pi BPI-M3 includes a 1.8 GHz ARM Cortex-A7 octa-core processor, 2 GB LPDDR3 SDRAM, and 8 GB eMMC flash storage. Its size is equivalent to that of the Banana Pi M1.

The M3 model features a 10/100/1000 MBit Ethernet network interface. The GPIO header is pin-compatible with the Raspberry Pi and can execute the ROM image.

Like its predecessor, it has a PowerVR SG544 graphics processor that operates at frequencies of up to 700 MHz, ensuring an ultimate gaming experience due to its high image processing performance.

In terms of multimedia processing, it can play videos at 60 FPS, including H.265 encoded videos at 20 FPS. Games can be displayed at a resolution of 1080P. The image processor supports an 8 MP camera interface and also integrates a full-color display, enhancing display quality and providing a more vibrant visual experience.

The integrated hardware security system is another key feature of the Banana Pi BPI-M3. It supports DRM solutions that include Widevine Level 1. HDCP for Miracast supports secure boot and storage options to protect the system and data. The performance and power consumption of the Cortex-A7 architecture are well-balanced due to the software optimization of the PowerVR 5 GPU series.
