2. Sony Alpha 6400

The compact camera with APS-C sensor is not only the one with the fastest autofocus in its class, it also has several functions that make autofocus even better in terms of precision - such as Real Time Eye AF and Real Time Tracking. To ensure that the photographer never misses a subject despite accurate autofocus, the Alpha 6400 takes up to eleven frames per second with automatic focus tracking if desired. This generation of the BIONZ X processor is responsible for the excellent image quality - in photos as well as 4K videos. The touch screen on the back of the camera can be rotated 180 degrees. All together, this makes the camera an excellent tool for creative people - no matter if professional, ambitious amateur or vlogger.

The Alpha 6400's autofocus takes effect within 0.02 seconds. No wonder, because the camera has some extras that are otherwise only reserved for the full-frame cameras Alpha 9, Alpha 7 III and Alpha 7R III. With 425 phase and contrast autofocus points each, distributed close together over about 84 percent of the sensor surface, the camera covers most of the viewfinder image. Together with the power of the BIONZ X processor, the camera reliably calculates the subject's position in focus and guides the focus point accordingly - no matter how fast the subject is moving.

With the Real Time Eye Autofocus, Sony is specifically developing the familiar eye autofocus further. With the help of artificial intelligence, the Alpha 6400 processes the position information for both eyes and calculates the next position ahead. In all autofocus modes, the camera now automatically detects the subject's eyes and focuses on them as soon as the photographer presses the shutter button halfway. In AF-C and AF-A modes, the photographer can manually choose whether the camera should focus on the left or right eye. This allows the photographer to concentrate exclusively on subject composition. The camera does the rest. From summer 2019, a firmware update will also include an eye autofocus function specifically for animals - perfect for pets and the wild.

Real Time Tracking is another specialty of the Alpha 6400, and thanks to Sony's latest algorithm plus artificial intelligence, the camera can track an object with extreme precision once it comes into focus. Object recognition inrates colors, distance, patterns such as brightness, and spatial information into the motion prediction. As a result, once the subject is in focus, the autofocus never lets go.

With eleven frames per second with automatic focus tracking and mechanical shutter and a maximum of eight frames per second with full focus tracking with electronic shutter in silent mode, the camera is not only fast in terms of autofocus, but also when it comes to continuous shooting. If desired, it shoots 116 JPEG photos or 46 RAW photos as a result.

With the 24.2 megapixel APS-C sensor and the advanced BIONZ X processor, the Alpha 6400 can take on any shooting situation. The normal ISO range finds its limit at ISO 32,000, but is expandable to ISO 102,400.
Fed with some image processing algorithms from Sony's full-frame cameras, the Alpha 6400 manages to keep noise levels low and detail resolution high.

5. Sony Alpha 7 II

The A7 II is the first full-frame camera with internal five-axis image stabilization. In addition, the focus is significantly faster and more accurate compared to the α7.The camera has also made significant improvements in the video area. Some exciting features have been added to the latest generation of the A7 series. First and foremost, the image stabilization will make the hearts of photo fans beat faster. In the A7 II, the 24.3-megapixel Exmor CMOS full-frame sensor is embedded in a five-axis image stabilizer. This technology, which absorbs vibrations in all directions, enables significantly slower shutter speeds. The image stabilizer can compensate for up to 4.5 f-stops. Of course, it also shows its capabilities with lenses that are connected to the camera via an adapter. No matter how gently you press the shutter button, every camera inevitably moves at the decisive moment. This is all the more critical in difficult ambient light, when the sun sets and exposure times become longer. That's where the new image stabilizer inside the A7 II can compensate for slight movements to the front, back, right and left, and can also compensate for circular movements. The practical thing about the new image stabilizer is that it compensates for all movements, even if the lens has its own stabilizer. This is especially the case with E-mount lenses with Optical SteadyShot (OSS). Here, both image stabilizations are combined. With third-party lenses or lenses from Sony's A-mount family, the new stabilizer is 100% effective anyway.

Faster & more precise: the new Fast Hybrid autofocus No detail escapes the 117 phase and 25 contrast autofocus points directly on the sensor. They wait on the entire sensor surface from the center to the edge for suitable subjects to focus on. And they do this particularly quickly and accurately. The focus calculation algorithm has now been improved once again, making focusing around 30 percent faster than on the a7. At the same time, the camera's ability to predict the movement of objects in front of the lens has also improved significantly. Autofocus and exposure compensation are tracked more quickly, so that soccer balls, children and the like are always in focus and optimally exposed. Once captured, subjects always remain in focus thanks to Lock-on AF. Speed also plays a decisive role in another aspect: the camera's switch-on time is 40 percent shorter than on the a7. This means that the camera is always ready for use immediately. In addition to recording in AVCHD Ver. 2.0 Full HD (1920×1080) 60p/50p, 60i /50i and 24p, the A7 II also handles the XAVC-S format. (Photo camera variant of Sony's professional XAVC format.) This enables Full HD video at bit rates up to 50 megabits per second. In addition, the A7 II masters video codec MPEG-4 AVC/H.264. For audio, the camera relies on linear PCM, among other things. Various picture profiles give videos the desired look already in the camera. In addition, the A7 II supports, for example, S-Log2, which is appreciated by professionals, and produces a 1,300 percent higher contrast range with more room for soft gradation and better reproduction of highlights and shadows, as well as optimal post-processing.
