Question about Synology MR2200ac

Does the MR2200ac also work in conjunction with the predecessor router Synology RT1900ac? Has anyone already tried it out? Synology builds very good routers, but with the RT devices they should take into account that there are more and more cabinet installations. That's why we still have the RT1900, because the RT2600 is just too big. Too bad.

I have an RT1900ac and 3 MR200c in operation.

The RT1900ac is in the basement. Synology NAS, telephone (IP to ISDN/analogue converter) and an MR2200ac are connected there via cable. WLAN is deactivated on the RT1900ac because it does not support mesh. In addition, the signal amplification is not needed in the basement, as the signal from the ground floor is sufficient for occasional use.

The MR2200ac connected by cable is the mesh master. The other MR2200acs are mesh clients and connected via WLAN. It would be better to use LAN cabling, but this would be too costly structurally.

The WLAN mesh serves its purpose well and reliably. It increases range and throughput by installing one MR2200ac on the upper floor and the last device on the terrace.

No, the MR2200ac only works with the RT2600ac in a mesh network. See also the Synology homepage.

You can configure the MR2200ac as an access point. It is very likely that it is then connected to the RT1900ac with a LAN cable. But you would have to find out for yourself what is possible. I don't have enough experience. But the MR2200ac works fine with the RT2600ac in a mesh network. I have configured these two like this and am very satisfied.
