Yes, that should work. The other way round is usually not possible, as the camera block on the back of the 9 is slightly larger. However, the case is clear and not black as shown here in the photos...

I can't answer your question as I have bought cases for both the 8 and 9, but have NOT yet bought the Asus Phone 9.
