Question about Synology DS120j

Hello, question about the NAS hard disk. In my opinion, this thing works the same way as on a computer. If you have a virus on it or the hard disk goes bye-bye, you are the same as in the beginning... (or you take it away from the Internet Lan cable every time, I mean). Therefore, it would make more sense to connect a normal external USB hard drive to make backups/savings. Or am I seeing this all wrong?

Exactly, a NAS alone is not safe. The hard drive can become defective at any time and then everything would be gone. But you can make a hyperbackup with an external hard drive via USB or with a second NAS, for example. There are also many other possibilities. I prefer to have the NAS with two hard disks as the main server and use the 120j as a hyperbackup.
