The microphone can be used well for this application. The adjustments to not record the keyboard are to be made in Skype. Either set it to push-to-talk, or make your own setting for how many decibels the signal should be considered as input. In terms of quality, the Meteor is the best microphone I have ever used.

The microphone has a long cable so it can easily be placed in the room. The sound quality is excellent, but I have a rather quiet keyboard myself and cannot speak directly to it.
