If you are often travelling and need Internet on your iPad, then 5G is worthwhile. But it also requires a contract or an extension to your mobile phone contract.

If you're rarely on the move and only need internet, save yourself 5G and use the hotspot on your mobile instead. That's what I always do and I've had good experiences.
