Try other USB ports on the docking station. Ports with a lightning bolt (not Thunderbolt) usually provide permanent power, for USB ports without a lightning bolt, the ports should be switched off when nothing is connected to the docking station.

Possibly daft, but could lead to the goal: Simply press the switch so that it takes the input not from the docking station but from the other connected device, which may not be constantly supplying power? 😊
