The difference between the version with "Special Offer" and the one without is that the "Special Offer" version displays adverts on the lock screen, i.e. it is a Kindle with adverts. The more expensive version without "Special Offer" comes without these adverts and offers an ad-free reading experience. Both versions are otherwise technically identical.
