Product details
When the tone becomes rougher, we need to pay even more attention to our words. In politics, online, and in the media, the tone has become sharper, and even in families and workplaces, we use phrases that we later regret. Speaking mindfully means being aware of the power of language and handling it carefully, as words can hurt, exert pressure, and manipulate. However, they can also comfort, offer hope, and warm our hearts.
Anselm Grün raises awareness about the pitfalls of communication. He invites us to examine our language, including our body language: How do we talk about others? Do our gestures and facial expressions match what we say? Are we aware of the impact of our word choices? Through numerous practical examples, Anselm Grün demonstrates that the tone in public, professional, and private life has changed. He highlights what constitutes a culture of respectful conversation and what we need to consider if we want to be good listeners to others.
"The language reveals you," it says in the Bible. Although Anselm Grün repeatedly refers to it here as in his other books, "Mindful Speaking – Powerful Silence" is one of his most socially critical works.
Anselm Grün studied theology, philosophy, and business administration. For more than three decades, he was the economic director of the Benedictine Abbey of Münsterschwarzach, responsible for around 300 employees in the various enterprises of the monastery. He is one of the most successful spiritual authors and is valued as a pastoral caregiver and spiritual companion as much as he is as a seminar leader and trainer. It’s no wonder: he takes his conversation partners seriously, listens attentively, and finds the right words at the right time. Thus, as a monk who is deeply engaged in life, he offers many people valuable insights for managing their professional and personal everyday lives.
