Marge Piercy is the author of seventeen novels, including the classic "Woman on the Edge of Time," nineteen poetry collections, four nonfiction books, and her critically acclaimed autobiography. Born in Detroit and educated at the University of Michigan, she holds four honorary doctorates. Piercy has been a key figure in many significant progressive political struggles of our time, including the anti-Vietnam War movement, the women's movement, and more recently, she has been an active participant in the resistance against the war in Iraq.

As one of the few American writers who have achieved success as both poets and novelists, Piercy is among the best-selling female poets in the country. She also excels in various genres, including historical novels, science fiction (for which she received the Arthur C. Clarke Award for Best Science Fiction in the UK), socially conscious novels, and contemporary fiction. She has taught at over 400 universities worldwide, giving lectures and presenting her works.
