According to the instructions, you can use normal water without any problems. The appliance must not be used without water. It is advisable to empty the container after each use and let it dry. As far as I know, distilled water would not do any harm. Mfg

It depends on how often it is used! Because of the limescale, I would rather use boiled water and always empty the water tank after use!
