The V 200, later known as series 120, is ideally suited for freight train service with its 1,470 kW. This type was based on the proven design M 62, which had been supplied to Soviet and foreign railways from Luhansk (Ukraine) for many years. From 1966 to 1975, the German Reichsbahn of the GDR acquired a total of 378 locomotives of this series.
