Product details
Based on the experiences with the bulk freight cars developed from 1954 with controllable gravity unloading, the Deutsche Bundesbahn procured various designs from several wagon manufacturers between 1959 and 1962. Initially, these were self-unloading wagons without a tilting roof of the type Otmm 64, which were reclassified to Fc 089 in 1980. Their primary use was in the transportation of gravel, ore, and coal. To also transport moisture-sensitive bulk goods such as grain, sugar, or chemical products, the wagons of the type Ktmm(v) 65, reclassified to Td(s) 928 in 1968, were converted by installing a new upper body with a tilting roof. Between 1983 and 1986, a portion of the Fc 089 was sold to the Deutsche Reichsbahn. Starting in 1988, as their economic lifespan was reached, the numbers of these self-unloading wagons began to dwindle. Even today, some wagons of these designs are still in use, primarily in construction train operations and with various private railways.
