The prototype featured water cranes with articulated booms, which were often found on platforms at departure tracks. The reason for such a location was clear: when a steam locomotive of an arriving train needed to take on water, it did not always stop exactly at a water crane. Reversing or repositioning could pose an increased risk to boarding and disembarking passengers. The articulated boom allowed for a certain length adjustment to bring the nozzle to the filling opening of the water tank in the locomotive tender without the train needing to move. This type of water crane often belonged to the inventory of a railway depot. The models also come with an additional base with stairs to compensate for the height difference between ballasted tracks and model tracks.
