After 40 years of IC connections in Germany, the fleet was a colorful mix. With the "IC mod." project, DB AG aimed to put an end to this situation and began conducting some prototype modifications starting in 2009. From 2012 onwards, series modifications took place at the repair works in Kassel, Neumünster, and Nuremberg, where the cars received a new interior design according to ICE standards, new doors, air conditioning, and wiring. Unlike the original, PIKO opted for a complete redesign for the modernized IC cars. The vehicles were precisely scaled to 1:87 and impress with fine engravings and flush-mounted windows. The interior is highly detailed and does not fall short of the original. The bogies also impress with many details, such as individually mounted spring packs, magnetic brakes, and brake disc replicas on the axles. A look under the cars is also worthwhile. Machine installations, battery compartments, and all supply lines have been meticulously recreated with great attention to detail. The dining car is, of course, prepared for the easy retrofitting of interior lighting.
