Product details

Between 1930 and 1938, a total of 298 standard express locomotives of the Class 03 were built for the Deutsche Reichsbahn, designed for routes with a maximum axle load of 18 tons. The last of the 86 machines stationed at the DR, some of which were reconstructed, remained in service until 1979. The elegant Pacific steam locomotives inspired a musical composition by Arthur Honegger. The 03 model is now part of the PIKO range. The high, slender boiler and the airy bar frame with clear visibility define the silhouette of the machine even in the model form. The delicate chassis with fine spokes and very pronounced counterweights appears particularly graceful. The new design features appropriate add-on parts such as bells, pumps, and lamps. Numerous attached boiler pipes complete the external impression. Ideal driving characteristics are ensured by the drive housed in the tender along with a flywheel. The factory digital variants of the model come with switchable lighting in the engine and on the driver's cab, as well as a flickering red firebox. These functions, along with various sounds, can be controlled using the factory-integrated PIKO sound decoder. The sound variant also comes with a built-in steam generator straight from the factory.
