Product details
Steam locomotive 31001 of the Royal Württemberg State Railways. Drive on two axles of the tender and via a cardan shaft on all three driving axles of the locomotive. The early 20th century was a time when the railway had already outgrown its infancy and was entering its era as the first mass transportation system. At that time, the first locomotives of the 310 series were delivered by the Floridsdorf locomotive factory to the Imperial and Royal Austrian State Railways. With its powerful four-cylinder compound engine, the driving and coupling wheels over 2.10 meters high, topped by a mighty boiler, it is considered by many railway enthusiasts to be the most beautiful steam locomotive in Austria. Quickly, the locomotive developed by Ing. Dr. h.c. Karl Gölsdorf, which had a significant impact on Austrian steam locomotive construction, also attracted interest from neighboring railway companies. Following the tradition of testing newly developed machines with friendly regional railways, it is quite conceivable that a comparison was made with the "beautiful Württembergian." To crown this story, the machine was also adorned in the appropriate colors of the Royal Württemberg State Railways.
