The Viking island of Berk has befriended the wild dragons that once terrorized the villages. With dragon riding now widespread, dragon racing has become the new favorite sport of the island's inhabitants. However, young Viking Hiccup prefers to go on exploratory flights with his dragon Toothless. During these adventures, the chief's son not only encounters his mother, whom he believed to be dead, but also uncovers the plans of the rival Viking lord Bludvist, who aims to conquer Berk and gain control over all dragons. Bludvist is also allied with dragons, and soon the scaly creatures of Berk will face their own kind. Will the friendship between dragons and humans withstand this test, and can the island be saved from invasion?
