Laifen Swift Special Hairdryer (grey)
Our Dyson hairdryer broke down because of the cable breaking. I contacted Dyson customer service to buy a new cable as this would have been an easy thing to repair myself. While you can order many spare parts, unfortunately they won't sell you a new cable and only offer to send in the dryer for them to replace the cable at a flat fee of 150 CHF.
With 3 girls in my household, I decided to buy this one instead and I can only say we are super impressed. The build quality is super (better vs. the Dyson) and it really feels like a premium product that hopefully will have a long lifespan. It also performs super. Girls find the dryer compact and not heavy and it dries their long hair very well and fast. The filter is also easy to clean.
I was a little doubtfull but really find the experience equal if not better vs. the Dyson at half of the price.
I did end up repairing the Dyson as well with a cable I bought online for 25 CHF + plug adaptor (unfortunately you won't find the replacement cable with a Swiss plug version) so we now have two working dryers. However, everyone grabs the new Laifen if they can,

A good alternative to a Dyson hairdryer. This one fulfils its purpose just as well and is cheaper.

First of all, it's the best hairdryer (and by far the most expensive) we've ever had and everyone in the family likes it. It's the combination of low, handy weight, very good and quiet air flow and the good accessories. Contrary to the description (1.8m), the cable is actually 2.5m long, which is almost unnecessarily long. Nevertheless, better a little too long than too short.
Now to the two downsides:
There is a slide switch with 2 levels for the air flow. This is very user-friendly and there is no danger of changing it by hand or position. If the hairdryer provides the maximum airflow at level 2, i.e. 100%, it already blows (what feels like) 75% at level 1. So there is only strong and very strong. This is certainly a matter of taste, I would have preferred something in the middle.
My second point of criticism concerns the temperature and its control. Unfortunately, there is no slide switch for this, but a push button. This allows you to click the temperature from cold to medium to hot and then it starts again at cold. An LED ring at the back of the hairdryer indicates the setting with a blue, orange or red light. Due to the push button and its position, it often happens that you change the temperature when changing hands, for example. If this had simply been solved with a slide switch, you would have been spared unintentional settings. And then there are the temperatures themselves. The cold setting is cold and so far good. The orange/medium level is only lukewarm and red/max is already really hot for my taste. It's certainly a matter of taste and feeling here too, for me medium is too lukewarm and max is too hot.

Overall a great alternative to Dyson. Although, once set for automatic temperature choice, just goes from cold to hot and back. So if you really are looking for this function where the hairdryer measures the temperature of your hair and adjusts the heat level accordingly every second, Dyson would be the choice for you.
