December streaming highlights

Yes, yes, it's the plot that counts. But somehow it's also about the visuals. These five films combine good plots with fantastic looks - and will keep you entertained during the festive season.
When the hustle and bustle of the holidays subsides, there's finally time for one thing: watching films. Of course, you could watch «The Holiday», «Love Actually» or «Die Hard» for the 700th time. Or you could add a little variety to your home cinema routine. And, at best, into your wardrobe. Because in addition to good stories, these five films provide plenty of outfit inspiration.
Tilda Swinton as rock star Marianne Lane not only serves up stage looks à la David Bowie, but also endless inspiration for your next summer holiday. Sophisticated shirt dresses, flowing skirts, mirrored sunglasses - and a delicious Matthias Schoenaerts to boot. He, as well as Ralph Fiennes and Dakota Johnson, are hardly inferior to Ms Swinton in terms of style. Plus the surreally beautiful backdrop of the Italian island of Pantelleria ... What are you waiting for?
Available on Paramount+.
The story of Giorgos Lanthimos' «Poor Things» is not exactly light fare, and you'll need a lot of time and nerves for the almost two-and-a-half-hour film. But it's worth it for the spectacular costumes alone. It's not for nothing that costume designer Holly Waddington was honoured with an Oscar for her employees. Nothing that can be transferred 1-to-1 to everyday life, but your creativity is guaranteed to get going, we promise.
Available on Disney+.
If I didn't know any better, I'd think we were back in the 1990s. At least that's what the current fashion suggests. If you have a soft spot for small sunglasses, good cardigans, ballerinas and halterneck tops - intrigue and rich New York kids - you'll love «Cruel Intentions». The 1999 classic still (or again?) works just as well visually and plot-wise as it did 26 years ago. And the soundtrack is pure nostalgia.
Available on Amazon Prime Video.
Designer Tom Ford is responsible for the screenplay, direction and production. That's all that really needs to be said. The story is tragic and endearing, the scenery is an interior design dream come true and the outfits worn by Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Nicholas Hoult are simply melt-in-the-mouth beautiful. Plus the light, the mood, the sixties charm. See for yourself:
Available on Sky Show.
Speaking of the Sixties: Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway as Thomas Crown and Vicki Anderson are a duo that nobody can match in terms of fashion. Not even Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo in the 1999 remake ... Another version of the heist movie is due to be released in 2027, but let's not go there. If you want to see the really good looks (and hello, Steve McQueen), stay loyal to the original! Even if it's a little less action-packed by today's standards. At least there's more time to take style notes.
Available on Mubi.
