The bicycle tyre with natural rubber comes from Pirelli
"P Zero Race TLR RS" is the first tyre in the cycling sector to use FSC-certified natural rubber. According to Pirelli, the tyre is manufactured in Milan. The UCI pro team Lidl Trek also rides on the new product.
The Forest Stewardship Council, or FSC for short, is a non-profit organisation that promotes responsible forestry. The new "P Zero Race TLR RS" tyre, which Pirelli manufactures at its plant in Milan-Bollate according to a press release, is to be the start of an FSC-certified product range.
According to Pirelli, the processed rubber comes from plantations whose form of cultivation preserves biodiversity and benefits the lives of local communities and workers. Around 23 per cent of the tyre consists of certified rubber, making it the most important component of the product, Pirelli continues.
The "P Zero Race TLR RS", which is also ridden by the UCI pro team Lidl Trek, is a tubeless-ready tyre which, according to Pirelli, represents the latest development in road bike tyres. It was specially developed for use in cycling races and is designed to provide grip in all weather conditions, road holding when braking, accelerating and cornering, as well as low rolling resistance and low weight. In addition, the tread thickness and the fabric layers of the structure have been revised to reduce weight. In combination with the rubber compound, this would lead to lower rolling resistance.
From car to bike
The world's first tyre with FSC-certified natural rubber was the Pirelli "P Zero" for the BMW X5 Plug-in Hybrid, which was launched in 2021. In 2023, the company then presented the tyre series with FSC-certified natural rubber for Formula 1 single-seaters. Now Pirelli is launching the first FSC-certified wheel tyre series with the "P Zero Race TLR RS".
