My door decoration urgently needs a festive update. Primarily because my current wreath is falling apart. The new one should be easy to make and inexpensive. Of all the many inspirations on Pinterest, this one particularly appealed to me. Now I want to create my own version of it
To do this, I need:
- dried orange slices (other citrus fruits also work, of course)
- Sternanis
- (Metal) ring, about 30 centimetres in diameter
- Narrow and wide gift ribbon
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun

1st step
Thanks to my colleague and DIY queen Stefanie Lechthaler, I dry the orange slices myself in the oven the day before. She shared her instructions here on Galaxus last year. Merci!
2nd step
Next, I attach a narrow gift ribbon to the metal ring. This will serve as a hanging device. To ensure that my wreath hangs at the right height around the peephole later on, I measured how long the ribbon needs to be beforehand. Do you prefer it to be inconspicuous? Then use a transparent nylon thread.
3rd step
Now it's time for the provisional arrangement: This gives me an idea of how the wreath might look in the end. I place the large discs in the middle of the ring so that there are no gaps and the circle «opens up neatly». I arrange smaller discs slightly offset above them for more dynamism. The aniseed stars are placed in between.
4th step
It's getting serious. Using a hot glue gun, I glue each tranche individually to the metal ring, starting with the large discs. I then work my way up one level and attach the smaller orange rondelles. Finally, I add the aniseed stars. To ensure that everything stays in place, I apply the glue to several points, especially on the fruit, and I also wrap it around the ring.
5th step
As soon as everything is dry, I venture into the final detail. I'm not particularly good at tying bows. That's why I cheat a little here and simply glue my bow - consisting of three individual sections of ribbon - together. I modelled it on a hair bow I have lying around at home. I attach the creation to the centre of the top of the wreath. The DIY wreath is finished!
