I have just installed an SSD with a SATA3 interface in this enclosure and connected it to my laptop. The Digitus only has a SATA2 interface. Unfortunately, the LED of the enclosure does not light up and the SSD does not appear on the laptop. Is SATA3 not backwards compatible with SATA2 or is this enclosure simply not functional?

A SATA 3 SSD is normally also compatible with SATA 2 hardware. It is very likely that the SSD is not receiving enough power.

"Modern" and "USB 2.0" are rather contradictory in 2019. Please adjust the classification or connection type.

"Modern" probably refers to the design. The problem is clearly the SATA II interface, which makes "modern" connections like USB 3.0 or 3.1 obsolete. If you want to use your 6 Gbit/s SSD sensibly, you should definitely go for a product with a SATA III interface. For me, however, it is perfect to use my old 3 Gbit/s HDD from my laptop again.
