So it works via the router. Synology via Ethernet to the router and connect the Xiamoi via WLAN. There are many apps for this. I use Plex. But it also works with Synology solutions like DS Video etc.
Hello,
I do the same with my Mi Box S, in fact this is the main purpose: a USB stick with MP4 files is connected and via a file manager the films are watched (via a beamer).
If your TV doesn't have an android operating system, that's a big difference. On android tv you can download the appropriate software that will read the avi files.
A newer amplifier has an HDMI input, connect the Mi box to it and connect the HDMI output of the amplifier to the TV. If set up correctly, the sound will be played back from the amplifier and the picture from the TV.
Yes, it is possible, the only important thing is the HDMI connection, the resolution is then negotiated automatically, most projectors can only handle Full HD.
This Mi Box S is technically outdated, so it may very well be that availability is no longer so great. Then the prices often go up. However, I would no longer recommend the Mi Box S, because there is a newer and technically better solution with the Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K.
Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K (Google Assistant)
As an alternative, the newer Mi Stick 4K would also work:
Xiaomi MI TV Stick 4K (Google Assistant)
This streaming box is totally outdated, it is also technically much worse than a Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K. I would recommend this solution, it costs less, can do more and has a better remote control.
Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K (Google Assistant)
No, it's a steaming box, but you can play back films from a USB hard drive. The Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K would be cheaper, but you can't record with it either.
Yes, it works without problems, but I would prefer the Google Chromecast with Google TV solution because of its better features. It can also do Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and HDR10+. The remote control can also control a TV.
Does the product work properly with 4K?
How can it be operated across countries with all channels?
What is the Kodi player, is it required or can it be watched directly via the box with the app (Zattoo, Teleboy)?
Are there any other important features or possibilities where the devices differ?
Since the majority of the device data is missing from the digitec comparison, it is not possible to make a meaningful comparison. The technical data often says *unknown*.
DIGITEC IS ALSO NOT IN A POSITION TO OFFER PRODUCT ADVICE!
Which box can you recommend; Minix NEO U1, Minix NEO U9-H, Minix NEO U22-XJ, Xiaomi Box S or Fantec?
Possibilities to watch 4K, remote control Zattoo or Teleboy via box, WLAN via mobile phone hotspot,
The box would be in operation on SEE in AU, DE and CH with WLAN via a mobile phone with hotspot to watch Teleboy and/or Zattoo. It should be possible to watch all CH channels so that there are no legal restrictions and the channels are blocked.
- Yes, the box works perfectly with 4K.
- All Android TV compatible apps (not Android for mobile phones) as well as Kodi can be installed. I use PLEX and independently Zattoo, SRF, Netflix, etc.
- However, cross-border channel access will fail with every box due to geo-blocking. Remedy: a VPN service that simulates being in Switzerland even when abroad. (by setting up a VPN app on the mobile phone & hotspot).
- The current version 9 of Android TV is installed on the box - other boxes often have older versions https://www.android.com/intl/de_ch/tv/
- Besides the Mi-Box in the bedroom, the Nvidia Shield TV Pro (Google Assistant) super update policy, fast NVIDIA processor excites me. I don't use Minix & Fantec myself, because the Shield is considered the reference among Android TV boxes.
The legal restrictions exist with every box and can only be circumvented with VPN abroad, the choice of which box has nothing to do with it. I hope the information helps.
Salt already answers the question itself at https://fiber.salt.ch/de/fiber/tv/apps-tv-video - it only talks about Android Mobile. This means that SALT does not provide an app for Android TV that uses a Mi-Box or other Android TV devices such as the Nvidia Shield, Sony Android TV, Philips Android TV, etc.
It may be possible via detours such as sideload, but this usually leads to operating or display problems that have to be solved with other apps. I therefore advise against buying the Mi-Box for SALT TV.
PS: By the way, the Playstore does not offer me the app for Android TV, only for my tablets or smartphones.
The MI Box S turns your TV into a Smart TV. As long as you have a free HDMI connection on the TV, this is no problem.
Regarding your question about streaming Turkish and German channels. The MI Box S itself is an AndroidTV box, which means that you can stream anything for which there is an AndroidTV app. If you want to watch TV legally and easily, then the Zattoo app is the best choice. You can get most German TV channels there with a free account. If you want more, you have to take out a Zattoo subscription and for the most popular Turkish TV channels, you also have to buy the Zattoo Turkish package. I hope I was able to help you.
I use both the Xiaomi MI Box S and an Nvidia Shield TV. There is no "PLAY SRF" app in the Google Play Store for "Android TV" on either box. This is different for Android mobile phones - here the app is available and can be streamed from the mobile phone via Chromecast to the Android TV boxes mentioned. For German-speaking Switzerland, therefore, there does not seem to be an Android TV-compatible PLAY SRF app. Only SRF can answer why it only exists for French-speaking Switzerland: E-mail to srf@srf.ch or by telephone on 0848 80 80 80.
The Xiaomi 'MI Box S (Google Assistant)', like many other streaming devices, has limitations when it comes to playing AVI files directly.
- Compatibility: The MI Box S, which runs on Android TV, may not natively support all types of AVI files. AVI is a container format that can contain various codecs, and not all of these codecs are supported by the MI Box S.
- Solution: To play AVI files on your MI Box S, you may need to convert them to a more compatible format such as MP4 or MKV. You can use video conversion software like HandBrake, VLC, or other video converters to achieve this.
- Alternative: If you prefer not to convert files, you can use apps like VLC or other media players that support a wider range of formats, including AVI. However, the compatibility still depends on the specific codecs used within the AVI files.
In summary, while the MI Box S may not support all AVI files out of the box, converting the files or using a compatible media player can help resolve the issue.
