Maybe you have to switch on LTE in the network settings first? If it doesn't have it, then tough luck... This is a phone made in India and designed for the market in India, not here. But according to reports, the 20 frequency band is actually the one that provides LTE and the phone has that too and in Germany LTE+ works on this phone.... But yes no 4G+ would also be a big criterion not to buy this thing....
I've had MIUI for a while now and find it better than Android. It's based on Android, but it's done a lot better.
Since it's very cheap (for the power), you can't go far wrong. But in general it is for power users.
