Can an Ethernet cable be connected from the router (e.g. Swisscom) via Adaper at USB-c?

I used a USB-A to RJ45 which works well to have internet on the laptop I connected (via USB-C). I don’t know if the signal is simply transmitted or whether the screen and it’s OS and the apps can use it.
