Can I simply log in with a pin code or does it need a finger scanner? Can the phone also be operated in winter with gloves that are prepared for capacitive screens? Or is that not possible because the finger scanner is needed?

I just tried out the "glove mode" (yep, that's what it's really called! 😄). It works quite well with my relatively thick Thinsulate gloves. With ski gloves, however, maybe not any more ;-)

You don't have to use the fingerprint scanner, PIN or unlock pattern works too.
Unfortunately, I don't have any gloves with which I could test right now, but the Asus coped well with a few trips to the (already quite wintry) mountains.
