Question about Creative Sound Blaster Omni Surround 5.1

Can I use the optical output of this sound card for my front speakers (soundbar) and the 3.5mm jack for the rear speakers? The Toslink connection is actually intended for an AV receiver.

In my opinion, this does not work under Windows. The driver does provide two audio outputs, one optical (SPDIF/Toslink) and one "normal" (jack). However, you can only select one or the other as the Windows output device. I use Toslink myself.
