Can the extremely annoying switching sound between the modes (Noise Cancelling - Ambient Sound - off) be switched off? I read something once, but I can't find the article or comment anymore.

It is possible since 7.3 of the software. To do this, you need the "Headphone" app from Sony on your mobile phone and can update your earpieces and switch off Mode Switch Notification if necessary.
