Does it really clamp the instrument or does it hang in? I need something to fix the ukulele in the van, it should stay hanging even during jerky driving.

It hardly clamps at all, and the weight is relevant for the clamping effect. For a ukulele on the bus, I would think about something else. Maybe Hercules stands?
