Hmm, AirPlay 2 vs. AirPlay 1: which mode does an iPhone 6 with current IOS support?
I tested the following today:
- Bluetooth activated on the Marantz receiver
- Pairing with iPhone 6 via Bluetooth (WLAN deactivated)
- Playing music via Bluetooth/Air Play works perfectly.
- switched on the "Network Control" function on the Marantz Receiver (default is OFF)
- switched the Marantz receiver to standby, Bluetooth connection with iPhone remained active
- Bluetooth on iPhone switched off, thus Bluetooth devices disconnected
- Bluetooth on iPhone switched on again, all Bluetooth devices remain set to "not connected
- manually connected the Marantz Receiver on the iPhone
- then the Marantz Receiver switches on and shows the name of the connected iPhone in the display
- as soon as music is played in the iPhone music app, it is streamed to the Marantz Receiver
- With the remote control of the receiver you can stop, pause, skip forward/back the music on the iPhone.

So I can only answer this question effectively: YES, the unit turns on automatically when you start streaming via AirPlay (via Bluetooth).

I don't have a test option for Spotify. And I don't have a test option for a test via WLAN and/or LAN either.

For the current price (CHF 499), I think the device is really worth buying!
