I am very interested in this device. Can anyone confirm that the Nexus 5x can be "updated" to Android 7.0 without any problems?

Yes and no: The update to 7.0 went smoothly for me via the corresponding update function.
However, it should be more difficult to update to 7.0 immediately, as 7.1.1 is already being updated - I hope this is not a problem ;-)
