I'm thinking of buying the cheapest RX100 (Mark I) because I don't need the features of the newer models (Mark II to V). Does that make sense or am I buying an outdated 5-year-old camera?

Well, if you don't need the functions, then it makes sense... Even if you buy an outdated, 5-year-old camera (it's still new, including warranty).

It really doesn't matter. There are people who still walk around with their 20-30 year old cameras and that's what they need.

It's always like this: either you need exactly one function of one model that the other product doesn't have. You might

use all the other great functions once, during commissioning, to see how they work.

Less is sometimes more (and more money in your wallet)!

I fully agree with Bristen: I did exactly the same and bought the Mark 1. I didn't need all the functions, and the Mark 1 offers enough of them.
Since the photo quality is the same as with the successor models, I probably made the right decision.
By the way, the image quality is really good! The Nikon full-frame will now stay at home more often!
