since I am annoyed with Apple for taking away iPod nano, I am looking for a compact device that would be good for listening to audio books from Audible.

Had the same issue... I recently bought the NW-A45 for this purpose and it works perfectly, so I can strongly recommend it. Also because it allows you to put additional 128 GB, which apple never does…
