With the supplied USB-C cable to my T470, both my screens attached to the dock work perfectly. Since the cable is too short, I purchased a normal longer USB-C cable (2m). With this cable I can turn on the TP but the picture is not transferred to the two screens. My question(s): Is the cable supplied special? Is there a longer original cable? Is there another reason why the normal USB-C cable does not work?

Hello MarkusWerser2: unfortunately I had to make the same experiences with the beginning of the lockdown and the start of the home office. The fact is that the normal USBC cable does not transmit the monitor signals. From this I conclude that the cable assignment and possibly other parameters differ from the Thunderbolt USB cable. In my application at the time, only the normal peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, etc. were transmitted. were transferred. My research in the www at the time confirmed this and various explanations can be found there.
If I were you, I would try a cable that is explicitly designated as 'Thunderbolt', I am pretty sure that it will work with it. In the meantime, there are cables with lengths of 2m that are also affordable.

Good luck.
Greetings Thomas
