Octavarium is the eighth studio album by the American progressive metal band Dream Theater. It was released on June 7, 2005, and was the band's last release with Atlantic Records. The recordings took place between September 2004 and February 2005, and it was the last album recorded at the Hit Factory in New York City. With this album, the band aimed to create a classic Dream Theater album based on their various stylistic influences while attempting to make the music less complex. The creative concept of the album is derived from the musical octave.
